Tool Gate · How it works

How the PII Redaction Readiness Kit gate works

How the PII Redaction Readiness Kit scans 5 sample documents with 10 detectors: an open-high-sensitivity gate forces any document with an unresolved SSN or high-tier finding to DO NOT SHARE, and the library reads worst-not-average — which is how 2 of 5 documents read DO NOT SHARE and the set reads HOLD.

How the gate works

This tool grades a document set for exposed PII before you share it. It reads 5 documents and rolls them into one verdict — the worst, never the average — and then a gate that can only make it worse.

The 5 documents

DocumentVerdict
customer-record.txtfix firstDO NOT SHARE1 high-sensitivity open (SSN) · 75% coverage
intake-form.txtDO NOT SHARE1 high-sensitivity open (SSN) · 33% coverage
vendor-onboarding.txtREDACT FIRST3 medium/low open, none high · 25% coverage
support-macro.txtCLEAR2 low findings, both allowed · 100% coverage
press-release.txtCLEARno PII patterns detected

The verdict bands

SAFE TO RELEASE
every document reads CLEAR
REDACT FIRST
worst document has only medium/low findings open
HOLD
any document has a high-sensitivity finding left open
Open-high-sensitivity · worsen-only

One unhandled SSN, card, bank detail, or health marker makes that document DO NOT SHARE regardless of its coverage percentage - and one DO NOT SHARE document holds the entire library at HOLD, whatever the average coverage reads.

In the worked sample it reads HOLDTwo of five documents are clear and one only needs a redaction pass on low-risk fields - but the customer file and the intake form each still have an open SSN. One open high-sensitivity finding is enough to make its document DO NOT SHARE, and library status is the worst document, never the average, so it reads HOLD at 67% average coverage. The one thing to fix first: customer-record.txt - redact the open SSN; one unhandled high-sensitivity finding blocks the whole document regardless of its 75% coverage..

Common questions

Can every document look survivable on the How the PII Redaction Readiness gate works and the company still read HOLD?

Yes. The roll-up takes the worst of 5 documents — never the average — then a worsen-only gate, the Open-high-sensitivity gate, escalates when trouble clusters. In the worked sample it reads HOLD because two of five documents are clear and one only needs a redaction pass on low-risk fields - but the customer file and the intake form each still have an open SSN. One open high-sensitivity finding is enough to make its document DO NOT SHARE, and library status is the worst document, never the average, so it reads HOLD at 67% average coverage.

What is a worsen-only gate?

A dispositive rule that can only lower a verdict, never raise it. One fatal flaw overrides an otherwise-set of survivable lines, because a single disqualifying gap shouldn't hide behind an average of the healthy ones. The tool also names the one thing to fix first — here, "customer-record.txt - redact the open SSN; one unhandled high-sensitivity finding blocks the whole document regardless of its 75% coverage.".

Flags fixed-pattern matches in the text you scan; it does not redact for you and does not guarantee every PII type is caught. Confirm handling rules with your privacy or compliance owner.
