Tool Gate · How it works
How the Authority Video Engine gate works
How the Authority Video Engine scores a video topic on four fit signals before you build it: an authority gate forces SKIP when the topic isn't in your lane, so a high-demand idea you have no authority on still gets cut.
How the gate works
This tool grades one YouTube topic candidate before you record it, with an authority gate. Each control is marked from your own evidence and weighted into a 0–100 score — and then the score is run past a gate that can only make the verdict worse.
The 4 weighted controls
| Signal | Weight |
|---|---|
| Search demand | 30 |
| Competition gap | 25 |
| Authority match | 30 |
| Client pull | 15 |
| Total | 100 |
The verdict bands
If you can't speak to a topic with a genuine first-hand point of view — authority match at or below 2 — it is forced to SKIP no matter how strong the search demand, because an authority video you can't speak to is just content-mill filler.
In the worked sample it scores 95 out of 100 and still reads PURSUE — This candidate scores 95 — high search demand, an open competitive lane, and a topic you can speak to first-hand that pulls buyers. Authority match is 5/5, so the honesty gate stays open and 95 clears the 70 PURSUE line. Record it. The one thing to fix first: Nothing to fix — authority match is 5/5 so the gate never fires, and 95 clears PURSUE. Competition gap at 4/5 is the only input short of full; a tighter sub-angle would only widen an already-open lane..
Common questions
Can something score well on the How the Authority Video Engine works and still fail?
Yes. The weighted score is run past a worsen-only gate — the Authority — that can only make the verdict worse. In the worked sample it scores 95 out of 100 and still reads PURSUE, because this candidate scores 95 — high search demand, an open competitive lane, and a topic you can speak to first-hand that pulls buyers. Authority match is 5/5, so the honesty gate stays open and 95 clears the 70 PURSUE line. Record it.
What is a worsen-only gate?
A dispositive rule that can only lower a verdict, never raise it. One fatal flaw overrides an otherwise-good score, because a single disqualifying gap shouldn't hide behind a high average. The tool also names the one thing to fix first — here, "Nothing to fix — authority match is 5/5 so the gate never fires, and 95 clears PURSUE. Competition gap at 4/5 is the only input short of full; a tighter sub-angle would only widen an already-open lane.".
