Tool Gate · How it works
How the AI Fluency Diagnostic gate works
How the AI Fluency Diagnostic reads your working AI fluency as the weakest of six skills, not the average: an essential gate drops the tier to AWARE if Verification or Safety scores under 3 of 5 — so a strong operator is still only CAPABLE when one skill lags.
How the gate works
This tool grades your working AI fluency across six skills, from your own marks. Each of 6 signals is scored 0–5 from your own evidence; the verdict is the weakest one — and then it is run past a gate that can only make the verdict worse.
The 6 signals
| Signal | Role |
|---|---|
| Foundational Understanding | signal |
| Verification & Source-Checking · essential | signal |
| Prompting & Iteration | signal |
| Workflow Integration | signal |
| Safety, Privacy & Data Handling · essential | signal |
| Role-Specific Application | signal |
The verdict bands
Verification or Safety scored under 3 of 5 forces the tier to AWARE regardless of how strong every other skill is — an operator who does not verify what the tool says, or who mishandles data, is not yet fluent however good the prompting.
In the worked sample mean 83 of 100, but you operate at the floor (weakest 2) and it still reads CAPABLE — Five of six skills are strong — foundational, workflow and safety are maxed, verification and role-specific sit at 4 of 5. But fluency is the weakest skill, not the average: Prompting & Iteration scores just 2 of 5, so the tier is CAPABLE. The mean of 83 reads fluent; the floor is what you actually operate at. Both essential skills clear the gate, so nothing is forced lower. The one thing to fix first: Prompting & Iteration is your weakest skill at 2 of 5 — it sets your whole tier. Start there: give the tool role, context and output format on every task, and iterate instead of accepting the first draft. The Anti-Slop Content System is the training the diagnostic routes you to..
Common questions
Can a profile look clean on the How the AI Fluency Diagnostic gate works and still fail?
Yes. The verdict is the weakest of 6 signals, then run past a worsen-only gate — the Essential gate — that can only make it worse. In the worked sample mean 83 of 100, but you operate at the floor (weakest 2) and it still reads CAPABLE, because five of six skills are strong — foundational, workflow and safety are maxed, verification and role-specific sit at 4 of 5. What is a worsen-only gate?
A dispositive rule that can only lower a verdict, never raise it. One fatal flaw overrides an otherwise-clean sheet, because a single disqualifying gap shouldn't hide behind everything that passed. The tool also names the one thing to fix first — here, "Prompting & Iteration is your weakest skill at 2 of 5 — it sets your whole tier. Start there: give the tool role, context and output format on every task, and iterate instead of accepting the first draft. The Anti-Slop Content System is the training the diagnostic routes you to.".
