How the AI Deliverable Claim & Citation Defensibility Gate gate works
How the AI Deliverable Claim & Citation Defensibility Gate scores a deliverable's claims to 100: a material-claim fatal-defect gate forces DO NOT SHIP when any load-bearing claim has an unreachable citation or a fabrication — which is how a board memo scoring 89 across 9 claims still reads DO NOT SHIP because 2 claims fail.
How the gate works
This tool grades a finished AI-assisted deliverable claim by claim - citation present, reachable, and actually supporting the claim. Each control is marked from your own evidence and weighted into a 0–100 score — and then the score is run past a gate that can only make the verdict worse.
The 5 weighted controls
| Signal | Weight |
|---|---|
| Citation present | 22 |
| Citation reachable | 26 |
| Source supports claim | 28 |
| Fabrication-free | 16 |
| Internal consistency | 8 |
| Total | 100 |
The verdict bands
Any claim marked material whose citation is unreachable (citation reachable = 0) or that shows a fabrication tell (fabrication-free = 0) forces DO NOT SHIP for the whole deliverable, independent of the blended score - one indefensible material claim voids the rest, no matter how clean the others read.
In the worked sample it scores 89 out of 100 and still reads DO NOT SHIP — Nine claims, six material. The blended defensibility score is 89/100 - six claims are perfectly SUPPORTED and only one non-material claim (C09) needs a second look - which would normally read DEFENSIBLE. But two material claims fail outright: C03's citation is unreachable and C06 shows a fabrication tell. Either one alone holds the deliverable - the gate forces DO NOT SHIP regardless of the 89. The one thing to fix first: C03 - the citation is unreachable and it's a material claim; fix or replace the source before anything else..
Common questions
Can something score well on the How the AI Deliverable Claim & Citation Defensibility gate works and still fail?
Yes. The weighted score is run past a worsen-only gate — the Material fatal-defect gate — that can only make the verdict worse. In the worked sample it scores 89 out of 100 and still reads DO NOT SHIP, because nine claims, six material.
What is a worsen-only gate?
A dispositive rule that can only lower a verdict, never raise it. One fatal flaw overrides an otherwise-good score, because a single disqualifying gap shouldn't hide behind a high average. The tool also names the one thing to fix first — here, "C03 - the citation is unreachable and it's a material claim; fix or replace the source before anything else.".
Not a guarantee of accuracy or a substitute for subject-matter review. A review aid for your own deliverables - it grades claims, never people. Not legal advice.
