Cold-Start Channel Caliper
A room full of your buyers that will remove you on sight is a room to earn, not a room to enter. This calipers every candidate room against six dimensions — and eliminates the ones that lose to a room already on your own list.
In the worked example, a room scoring 87 out of 100 reads WRONG ROOM. Nothing is wrong with it. Another room on the same list matches it everywhere and beats it on cost, and you are picking one room to start in — not six.

The problem
You do not find out a room was closed until week nine.
Not because the room is bad. Because another room on your own list matches it on every dimension and beats it on one.
Buyer density is the heaviest dimension in the model, at 26. It still cannot buy you a seat in a room that will remove a stranger on sight.
No scraping, no traffic estimates, no API. Every mark is your own judgement about rooms you already know — which is also the honest limit of it.
The usual way to choose a channel is to pick the one where your buyers are and find out the rest by doing it. That is a nine-week experiment per room, and most founders can afford about two of them a year. The information you need to skip the bad ones is information you already have — it has just never been written down in one place where the rooms can be compared against each other.
See it work
Change one mark and a different row changes verdict.
C-03 is selected. It scores 87 — an ENTER NOW score — and reads WRONG ROOM, because C-02 matches it everywhere and beats it on cost. Raise C-03’s cost to enter to 2 and it survives.

ONE ROOM IS OPEN
The best room, not the worst. You are picking one room to start in.
Your judgement only — no benchmark, no traffic estimate, no scraped data. It grades rooms, never people, and connects to nothing. Not financial advice.
C-03 is selected. Raise its cost to enter from 1 to 2 and it stops being dominated — it now ties C-02 everywhere, and a tie is not a loss. Then set C-02’s buyer density to 1 and watch what happens to the rooms C-02 was holding down. This is the whole reason to list every candidate before you mark any of them.
The model
Six dimensions, and two rules that sit above the score.
Buyer density 26, entry permission 22, commercial tolerance 16, post half-life 14, cost to enter 12, cadence you can hold 10. Weights sum to 100. ENTER NOW at 75 or more, EARN ENTRY FIRST from 50 to 74, WRONG ROOM under 50.
A room you cannot participate in yet cannot read ENTER NOW at any score. It is a statement about your standing, not about the room — and it is why the heaviest dimension in the model cannot rescue a row on its own.
The only cross-row rule here. A room another candidate matches everywhere and beats somewhere reads WRONG ROOM. The test is strict, so two identical rooms never eliminate each other — proved across all 531,441 ordered pairs of mark combinations.
When a room is eliminated, the fix-first column says so and stops. The row is not weak — it is second, and improving it would still leave it second. That is the only place in the kit where the honest advice is to do nothing, and saying it plainly is worth more than a suggestion that would not have helped.
Verified, not asserted
The workbook is checked against a reference engine.
You get the .xlsx — that is the product. It is built against a separate reference implementation of the same model, and every formula in the sheet is asserted equal to it before release: 62 cell-level checks on the worked example, 729 room states, and the full dominance relation over 531,441 ordered pairs. Below is that engine’s verbatim output on the same six rooms the workbook ships with, captured programmatically and diffed against this page.

SHORTLIST VERDICT ONE ROOM IS OPEN
Start here C-02 - LinkedIn founder posting, score 93
This rollup takes the BEST room, not the worst. You are choosing one
room to start in, not maintaining a portfolio - and a room that loses
to another room on your own list costs you nothing but the weeks.
==============================================================================What it is — and isn't
It compares rooms you already know. It does not go and look at them.
- A structured comparison of candidate rooms, made before you commit.
- Deterministic and offline — same inputs, same verdicts, every time.
- A named model you can argue with: the weights, both bands and both rules are on this page.
- Dateless. Re-run it when your standing changes or a room’s rules do.
- Not research. It does not tell you where your buyers are; it makes you say.
- Not connected to anything — no scraping, no traffic estimates, no API.
- Not a prediction. A room reading ENTER NOW is a room you can enter, not one that will work.
- Not financial advice, and it grades rooms rather than people.
Scope note: every mark is your own judgement, so the output is only as honest as the marking — and the dominance rule compares against your list, so a room you never listed cannot eliminate anything. No verdict guarantees a traffic, audience or revenue outcome. This is not financial advice.

The Caliper picks the room. These three are what you do inside it.
When the Caliper says start on LinkedIn, this is the operating system for the room it named.

The mechanics, stated plainly.
One spreadsheet
Pick the room once.
- Three tabs, 30 rows, live formulas, a worked six-room example.
- Cross-row dominance built into the sheet, not bolted on afterwards.
- Opens in Excel, Google Sheets or Numbers. Nothing to install.
- Deterministic and offline. It grades rooms, never people.
