How the Spoken-PII Transcript Redactor gate works

This tool grades every voice-call transcript in a batch for PII that survived redaction. It reads 4 transcripts and rolls them into one verdict — the worst, never the average — then a gate that can only make it worse.

Self-check re-scan · worsen-only

Every transcript is masked, then the redactor re-scans its own output. If any PII is still detectable — most often a number a caller split around an interjection, leaving a digit fragment beside the placeholder — that transcript is RESIDUAL EXPOSURE, never certified clean. The batch rolls up by residual share: one residual in four is a REVIEW QUEUE, but once residuals cluster past 25% the whole library reads EXPOSURE REMAINS. A redactor that might have missed something says so.

REVIEW QUEUE

Why: Four transcripts run through mask-then-re-scan. Two come back REDACTED CLEAN — including a caller who read their SSN and phone aloud as words, which a document scanner would have walked right past; the tool normalized the spoken digits first, then masked them. One had nothing to redact. But one call split a phone number around an interjection, so a digit fragment survived beside the [PHONE] placeholder: RESIDUAL EXPOSURE. One residual in four is 25% — REVIEW QUEUE, not a clean library. The redactor refuses to certify a transcript its own re-scan still flags. 1 of 4 transcripts still shows residual after masking · 25% residual share · worst-not-average.

Fix firstcall-8804.txt — the split spoken number left a digit fragment beside the [PHONE] placeholder; re-run or hand-mask that transcript before the library clears, and the re-scan will confirm it.

No single transcript is the crisis — the clustering is. The roll-up takes the worst, the gate escalates when trouble compounds, and it names the one thing to fix first. A deterministic redaction aid with an honest self-check — not certified de-identification, and a REDACTED CLEAN verdict is not a compliance guarantee. It masks text you provide and scores no person.
